(January 2023) – We are pleased to announce that Lisa Kresge and Brian Hughes have been named equity partners in the law firm of BRCSM, effective January 1, 2023.

Lisa Kresge, formerly of counsel, has been with the firm for more than 11 years, and Brian Hughes, formerly a limited partner, has been with the firm for more than 15 years.  They will also assume administrative and management responsibilities in the Providence, RI and Taunton, MA office, respectively.

These are the first equity partnership additions since the firm’s founding in 1991. All founding partners – Edmund Brennan, Joseph Recupero, Ronald Cascione, Benjamin Scungio and Kevin McAllister — remain active at the firm.

“We are thrilled to add Lisa and Brian to our partnership, reflecting their significant contributions to the firm and collective vision to help lead us into the future,” said Managing Partner Benjamin Scungio.

Lisa Kresge joined BRCSM’s Providence office in 2011 from the Boston office of international law firm of Brown Rudnick, where she was a partner. With a focus on commercial finance, she represents businesses and financial institutions — including banks, credit unions, and mortgage servicers — in both transactional work and commercial litigation. She handles corporate restructuring and creditors’ rights matters, representing secured creditors, trade claimants and other parties-in-interest in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy and receivership cases in jurisdictions across the US. She routinely counsels commercial lenders and borrowers in connection with secured and unsecured credit facilities, asset-based financing, loan workouts, commercial and residential foreclosures and other lending and business transactions.

Admitted to practice law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, she was elected to the board of the Rhode Island Women’s Bar Association in 2018 and is currently the treasurer of that organization. A resident of Mansfield, MA, she is active in the Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce.

Brian Hughes is a litigator in the Taunton office and admitted to practice law in all of the state and federal courts in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He has litigated cases that include: business and construction disputes, real estate and landlord-tenant cases, bankruptcy matters, commercial loan disputes, commercial foreclosure and creditors’ rights, and discrimination matters. He is also part of the firm’s education law team.

He has also protected his clients’ rights in dozens of construction disputes involving mechanics liens, avoiding litigation, in most cases. He has successfully handled appeals in state and federal court and defended a banking client in a foreclosure matter involving an alleged due process violation before the US Supreme Court.

A resident of Marshfield, MA, Brian is active in the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge, and received the Meritorious Service Certificate in 2009 from the Grand Lodge of Masons.
